Quick answer: WellBox is strongest when you want a curated physical gift box, with branded packaging and a B Corp story behind it. Huggg is strongest when you want each person to choose their own gift from a wide range, sent instantly by email, SMS or a link, with prices that already include VAT and delivery. Both options offer links that recipients claim themselves, and both of them offer gift cards.

How recipients get their gift
- WellBox: delivered to one address in bulk, sent to individual addresses, or claimed through a redemption link where the recipient adds their own address

- Huggg: branded digital gift wrap and redemption pages, plus a separate branded gifts service for physical merchandise - with lots of beautiful bespoke options
Dietary needs

- Huggg: recipients choose their own gift, and you can filter the range by dietary need when you set it up - and restrict gift types, so managers can’t send certain things
Purpose
- WellBox: a certified B Corp, with a donation (one meal, or £1 to Mind) included with every gift
- Huggg: giftees can choose to donate the value of their gift to dots.eco in most cases, so they get that feel-good giving moment
How each one works
WellBox started with gift boxes and has grown into more than that. You can send a box to an office in bulk or to individual homes, send a free redemption link so each person adds their own address, or set up a branded gift portal with budgets and claim rules. Its HappinessGuaranteed option lets the recipient swap a gift for another of equal value, or donate it.
Huggg starts with the link. You choose a specific gift, a gift card, or a Gift with Choice, write your message, and send it however suits your team. Nobody needs an app or a login to claim. If they pick something physical, they add their own delivery address. If they pick something digital, it arrives instantly.
So both can avoid the home-address spreadsheet. The real differences are in what people choose from, what the price includes, and how fast it lands.
Choice: what are people actually choosing from?
This is where the two differ most, so it's worth comparing like with like.
With WellBox, the recipient's choice is usually between gifts you've shortlisted, or between retailers on the WellBox Choice card, which covers "up to 84 brands" that the sender selects.
With Huggg, a Gift with Choice lets you set a budget and pick a selection, and each person chooses the gift they want from it. Huggg's wider range runs to more than 10,000 gift options from over 700 brands, from physical gifts and experiences to gift cards.
Does the breadth matter? Our data says yes. At Christmas 2025, people given a free choice on Huggg picked from 610 different products, and 84% chose something outside the ten most popular items. A curated box, however good, is still one guess at what a whole team wants.
That matters because a generic gift often doesn't land. In our Christmas Gift Index, a survey of 500 UK workers, 42% said their last work gift felt generic, and only 34% said it made them feel genuinely valued.
Price, VAT and the £50 trivial benefits rule
Both companies keep plenty of gifts under £50, which matters because a staff gift of £50 or less per person can be a tax-free trivial benefit.
One detail to check. HMRC's £50 limit includes VAT. WellBox lists its prices excluding VAT, so a box listed in the £40s can cross £50 once VAT is added, depending on what's inside. Check the VAT-inclusive price of anything near the line before you commit.
On Huggg, the price you see is the total, with VAT and delivery already included. A gift listed at £48 counts as £48 against the £50 limit, with no maths to do.
Huggg is free to use, with no platform fees and no per-send charges. WellBox's redemption links are free too, and it offers a lowest price guarantee on orders of 25 or more.
There's more on the rules in our guide to employee gifts and tax.
Christmas timing
Physical boxes need stock and a courier, so Christmas has deadlines. WellBox says its Christmas delivery starts on 16 November, and branded Christmas gifts need ordering by mid-October. Standard delivery is two to four working days.
With Huggg, digital gifts and gift cards go out the moment you send them, so you can send on the last working day, or even on Christmas Eve. If someone picks a physical gift, it arrives within about five working days of them claiming it. For Christmas 2026, Gift with Choice opens to order on 3 November and the wider Christmas range on 4 November, while the everyday range can be sent now.
“WellBox has some great hamper options, and we know hampers are a good option for some teams - that’s why we offer those too. Huggg is just here to offer choice, something for every budget, and the ability to get rid of all the address chasing and deadline drama that normally comes with Christmas gifting” - Lewis Quick, Commercial Director at Huggg
